Reading Objectives:

CCSS:RL.6.4, RI.6.2, .RI.6.7

The 6th grade students will be able to: Determine the meaning of words  and phrases as they are used in a text (tone, impact, etc)

I CAN: use context clues to determine the meaning of my vocabulary words.

I CAN: use context clues, prior knowledge, and text to comprehend a given text.

I CAN determine the tone and impact of the writing based on the word choice of the text.

The 6th grade students will be able to: Determine a central idea of a text and how it is conveyed, as well as summarize without personal opinion or judgement.

I CAN write a summary using key details that support the central idea of the text, only using information from the given text. 

The 6th Grade students will be able to integrate information presented in different ways into their learning.

I CAN: come up with fun ways to learn new reading strategies to help comprehend a text using my iPad, games, or other learning tools.

Math Objectives:

6.G.A.2

Find the V of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the V is the same as it would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formula of V=LWH and V= bh to find volumes of right triangles and solve real world problems.

6>G.A.3

Draw polygons in the coordinate plane given coordinates for the vertices; use coordinates to find the lengths of a side joining points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. Solve Real world problems.

6.G.A.4

Represent 3-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of the figures. Apply these techniques to real world problems.

Language Arts Objectives:

CCSS: W.6.4, W.6.9, W.6.2, L.6.1, L.6.2

The 6th grade students will be able to: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose and audience.

I CAN: write a thought out and organized piece of work that demonstrates correct organization, purpose and audience.

The 6th grade students will be able to: Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. 

I CAN: read texts and find info to support, reflect on and research.

The 6th grade students will be able to: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.

I CAN: write with purpose to examine a topic and give ideas and concepts that I have learned to my audience. 

The 6th grade students will be able to demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage.

I CAN write using proper grammar.

The 6th grade students will be able to demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.

I CAN use capitalization, punctuation where they belong as well as spell words correctly.
